Abstract

The interaction between law, technology, and privacy has witnessed significant transformation, as recent technological advancements continue to challenge the notion of privacy. From the dawn of telegraph communications and portable cameras in the 19th century to the development of the internet and data-driven technologies in the 20th and 21st centuries, new inventions need novel legal solutions aimed at protecting privacy. Compared to conventional privacy law, which considered  technology a threat to privacy and was essentially defensive, modern privacy law is increasingly investigating, more proactive, and comprehensive, and presents novel solutions. This article examines the interaction between law and technology regarding emerging privacy concerns. Proposing a paradigm shift, it emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach for combining legal and technological systems to provide an all-encompassing, flexible, and efficient way to handle digital era privacy and data security crises without hampering technological growth.
